Open land, wind and what reaches the roof
The land around White City is open and flat, so there is little to slow the wind. Strong gusts can lift edges, loosen ridge caps and drive rain sideways under the shingles. Hail from summer storms crosses the fields and strikes without warning.
Snow behaves differently on large roofs. It slides in sheets from steep slopes onto lower roofs and decks, and it drifts into valleys where meltwater concentrates. Garages and porches that sit under bigger roof sections can take heavy loads. Check for bent gutters, damaged downspouts and displaced shingles after a hard storm, and have a roofer look at areas you cannot see from the ground.
